Spirited Away~2

Chihiro looked out of her window. The night sky clear from the rain clouds that day. Her brown eyes look up into the sky like she was searching for a lost person to return. Her chin rested on her palms of her hands. She slumped over the window ledge with her her legs over top of each other to her side. A wind blew in sending her brown locks of hair to fall about her face and play about her nose. The streetlights glowed brightly below her from the city. It was like a sea of stars below her mirror reflection of the sky. It was her sixteenth birthday not too long ago and she was second year into high school. The grass in the sloped field a crossed from her blew about like green waves of the ocean. She looked at the grass for a while before looking back at the stars “Silver, like dragon scales…” She sat up and lifted her hands up as she stretched. She dropped them to hold on to the two glass window shutters. She pulled them closely towards each other and stopped. The draft of wind played with her pink curtains. She pushed them back to keep the window open. “Maybe he will find me tonight”.  That’s what she hoped for. She crawled into bed and glanced back out side before her eyes closed.
Far but not too far a bathhouse was busy with customers.  The hallways were full of servant’s running back and forth. Baths filled with hot water as the guests splashed about. Steam rising from the chimneys of the bathhouse. A grumpy old man sat quietly as his arms pulled and grinded herbs. Stopping every second to brush away herbs from his mustash. Small black soot balls walked back and forth carrying large rocks of coal. The flames of the fernise flared up sending small sparks to fly all over the dirt floor where the soot balls walked. A pair of green eyes opened. They tiredly looked at the old man then closed once again. A small sliding door opened as a girl with brown hair stepped in. She balanced a tray and a wood pail of cloths in one hand. “Hey kamagi where do you want to put these clothes?” Kamagi looked over his shoulder then looked back at his work as he brushed away the grinded herbs off his slate with a brush. “Just leave it by the table” He said with a sniff. She sat it down and put the tray of food on the table. “I can’t believe Ubabba is making us work twice as hard now with out any breaks” She sat down at the table to catch a few seconds of rest before heading back up stairs and busy hallways of the bathhouse. “Lin did you bring the bandages as I asked?” Lin nodded “they are with the clothes. I had a hard time hiding them from the others and from Ubabba who walked passed me in the hallway”. She looked at the heap of cloth in a dark corner. “Should we tend to the wounds again?” Kamagi looked at the heap of cloth “No its best to let him rest”. Lin sighed and layed down on the wood floor with her hands behind her head. “They are still searching for him. I heard some frogs say Ubabba will kill any one who knows where he is” Kamagi smiled “Ha that old witch can’t do anything about it, but I hope everything works out so he can leave this place finally” Lin sat up and popped a carrot into her mouth “Well I got to be going” she said with carrot in her mouth. She got up and walked back to the door and glanced back at the pile of cloth “you get better soon you big idiot because Ubabba is on our back” she smiled and walked out and closed the door. The pile moved slightly as Lin left. Bits of cloth slid off. Kamagi narrowed his eyes behind his black sunglasses that he wore to protect himself from the bright fire. “Don’t think about settling things just yet Haku”
Chihiro Sat in her classroom as the teacher talked about old Japan. Chihiro played with the elastic band in her hand. The red colour sparkled in the sunlight that came from the windows. “Now class remember we are heading out to the river this Wednesday. Make sure you bring a big lunch.” With that the teacher closed the book and walked out of the classroom as the bell rang. Chihiro put her stuff back into her bag and slipped the elastic band into her pocket. She walked out to of the class with her bag slung over her shoulder. “ Hey Chihiro! Wait!” One of her friends ran up to her. “Where are you going? You want to walk home with me today?” Chihiro shook her head “ Not today I-I have to find some one today.” Her friend frowned “Find who? Another friend? A missing family member! A pet?” Chihiro shook her head and giggled as her friend looked at her worried. “No, no not any of that. It’s just a promise. I will see you tomorrow bye.” She waved and ran down the hallway. Her friend watched her with another frown. “ A promise?” She walked down the streets and crossed a couple cross walks. She took a short cut up a steep hill and stopped at a dirt road that lead up into the tree-covered hills. She stared up the road sadly. “Maybe just this time… One more look.” She walked up the dirt road looking behind her as she did. She passed old stone statues hidden in bushes. She stopped in front of a large entrance. The red plaster wall’s paint peeled in places. The ground near the entrance was cobblestone. Grass grew up threw the cracks here and there. She looked into the darkness of the tunnel. She walked up to the entrance but didn’t go in. The wind blew at her heels and body pulling at her towards the entrance.  She smiled as she skimmed her hand threw her bangs. Her smile faded as the wind went down. “ I can’t go back… There is no reason to. Is there?” She walked up to the wall and put her back against it. She slid down to her butt and sat there hugging her knees. She leaned her head back. “ I am sure you guys are doing fine there. How is it going? Is Ubabba still being her greedy self still? Lin I am thinking of getting a job this summer…” She looked at the ground. She bit her lip as she sighed to her self. “What’s the point? They can’t see or hear me. Haku I hope you were able to get away from there.” She pulled out the elastic band from her pocket and looked at it before putting it back into her pocket.
Kamaji Relaxed as the bathhouse closed for the night. The cloth in the corner shook as Haku moved under it. Soft hisses came from it as he stood up on his feet. His whiskers coiling and flailing about his muzzle as he looked at Kamaji. Kamaji took a big draft of his water from a large kettle he used as a water bottle. A whisper of wind echoed in the room as Haku stood on his human feet.  Bandage was around his arm. “How long have I bin sleeping down here Kamaji?” Kamaji put the kettle down “I think about Three days. Lin brought down some food for you today it’s sitting on the table.” Haku shook his head and sat by the table. “I need to face her again. I need to get out of here.” Kamaji nodded “Not now though. You are not in the best condition at the moment.” Haku looked at him with his green eyes “Same with her. She is in worse shape than I am.” He gave a smirk as he said that. Kamaji smiled “No wonder she is more harder on all of us now.” Haku looked at the table “Sorry…” Kamaji took another draft of water “ It’s okay. You need to leave this place.” Haku’s hands clenched tightly into fists. “I will keep my promise…Chihiro,” He muttered under his breath. Ubabba sat behind her desk grumpily. She counted her coins and suddenly backhanded them away. Coins and paper went flying around in the room. She stood to her feet “That damn Haku!”  Her hand shot towards her shoulder. She sat back in her chair and looked at the empty desktop. “I will kill you this time Haku”
Chihiro opened her eyes and looked around. “ Did I fall asleep?” She glanced at the entrance. “I will talk to you guys again. Have a good day everyone” Chihiro stood up and brushed her self off. She walked back down the road and walked up the field to her house. The blue house’s white curtains fluttered about from the open windows. She cut into her back yard and into her kitchen. “I am home,” No one answered. She stopped and picked up a note that her parents left “ Chihiro we are sorry we weren’t able to greet you when you got home. We are heading to your grandparents place for a while. We wanted you to come but we know you were looking forwards to the trip to the river tomorrow. Have a safe and fun trip. Mom and dad” Chihiro put the paper down and walked out of the kitchen up the stairs to her room. The sun glinted rays of light on her bed from the jar of sea glass that sat on her window ledge. Their soft hews danced on her white bed. She sat down at her window seat. To the right stood the forested road that lead up to the red wall entrance that she was at. She pulled a leg up to her and rested her chin on it.” How long is it going to be Haku…?” Chihiro close her eyes as a small tears rested on her eyelashes.
